When the war was going on people wanted sweet films of happines. Suominen family were like Andy Hardy's family. The Finnish Andy Hardy was Olli. Actor Lasse Pöysti grew up with this role and got very popular.
Sequels (all except the last directed by Orvo Saarikivi):
2. Suomisen Ollin tempaus ('Olli Suominen's Stunt'
[Suominens Olli på farliga vägar] 1942)
3. Suomisen
taiteilijat ('The Little Artists of the Suominen Household', 1943)
4. Suomisen Olli rakastuu ('Olli Falls In Love', 1944)
5. Suomisen Olli yllättää ('Olli Pulls a Surprise', 1945), and a-once-again-together
-film where the kids gather together again after many years:
6. Taas
tapaamme Suomisen perheen ('The Suominen Family Is Here Again' [Familjen Suominen är här igen], 1959).
During the history of the serie some of it characters got new faces - of course, since the actors got old and died. Granfather Volmar was played at first by Hugo Hytönen but after 1944 he was replaced with Arvo Lehesmaa. Also the twins Marja and Matti were replaced later with a bit younger actors. The father of the family, who was played by actor Yrjö Tuominen, wasn't anyway replaced when the actor died.
TRIVIA: Tuttu Paristo wrote Suominen family serie to radio before this movie. The original idea was taken from Swedish radio by Markus "Markus-setä" Rautio. The Swedish serie told about a family called Björk.
