Mr. Kurkvaara started as director in 1950's. He continued working with feature films to 1980's. In 1955 he was filming the first Finnish colour movie (Arktinen rakkaus) but in the end this movie never was the first one. Because of the problems in the production it never got to the theatres. Parts of this movie was released in Mr. Kurkvaara's later movie Perhosen uni (1986).
